We were in bed last night by 9 pm. Tony woke up around 2 am and couldn’t fall back to sleep. I found out this morning that he snuck out of the room with his laptop and phone and spent the night in the dining room so that I could sleep undisturbed.
Sleeplessness is an after-effect of the prednisone. During chemotherapy, prednisone is used to both kill cancer cells and reduce the side effects of treatment. It can help shrink tumors and kill cancer cells, especially in blood cancers, while also managing side effects like inflammation, nausea, vomiting, and allergic reactions. Prednisone also helps with other cancer-related symptoms, such as fatigue and pain.
Allie was Tony’s AMU nurse again today. The IV held steady overnight. Tony napped during the two-hour transfusion, and we left the hospital a little after 11 am.
We went back to the Fisher House and made some lunch before heading out for our traditional excursion. Tony wanted to go to Woodcraft. Then I wanted to go back to IKEA. I thought Tony was navigating me back to the Fisher House, but instead, he directed me to Fashion Place Mall. 😂 My phone tracked that we walked 2.73 miles.
We had a good time browsing many of our favorite stores, like BoxLunch, the LEGO Store, and Sur La Table. Just for fun, Tony bought a little fashion sparkler that caught my eye at Dillard’s. (Originally priced at $25, it was on clearance for less than $10. 😉)
Back at the Fisher House, we made some dinner and had a nice visit with a couple who have been here since July. The husband has been battling multiple myeloma for 20 years, and doctors are trying to get his condition stable enough for him to qualify for a clinical trial that sounds promising.
What a journey cancer is! 😢 We lift up in prayer all who face this battle and those who care for them. The prayers, messages, and support we’ve received have meant more than words can say. They’ve carried us through the hardest days and reminded us that we are not alone. We are deeply grateful.
