Days 12-14

October 25, 2026by Debra Scoresby Palmer

Our days are now running together. Without any appointments, every day is much like the last. We’ve fallen into a bad habit of staying up too late and sleeping in.

Adding insult to injury, Tony received a jury summons. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Mr. Charming decided now would be a good time for puzzling. We haven’t put a puzzle together in a few years, which is sad. It’s usually a part of our holiday and winter traditions.

With every day that passes, Tony moves a little better. He has started going up and down the stairs to the basement. He says it helps to stretch out his right leg as it heals. He told me going down the stairs is actually more difficult than going up.

Tony had a couple of low moments in the hospital. He said, “I’m Frankenstein.” I assured him that I don’t see him that way. Later, trying to lighten the tone, he said, “This is the right month for all of this.” He probably won’t think about Halloween the same way again.

The Harry Potter movie marathon has continued, one movie each day. We’ve also watched both “Hocus Pocus” movies and “Halloweentown.” Our hero frequently nods off in the middle. Sometimes he pauses the movie and goes to bed for a nap. I’m glad that he is listening to his body and giving it the rest required to heal.

We haven’t had many visitors. Our neighbor and friend, Tom Griggs, dropped off some Scrubzz bath sponges that his wife, Linda, thought we would like. They are so much nicer than what we used in the hospital! We give them a 10/10. I’m so grateful that Tony is strong and has great balance. With sutures on his right leg, left arm, and around his neck, he can’t take a bath, and showers are tricky. We have a handheld shower extension, so that helps a lot.

On Sunday, our friends, Adam & Leslie Jack, paid us a visit. Leslie made some delicious chicken enchiladas that Spencer and I enjoyed.

Going through something hard? Give your family one place to follow along.

Telling hard news again on every call and every text wears you out. That's why we made this blog: one place for Tony's story, updates by email, and a simple way for friends to help. I built it with HBA's Funnel Builder by typing what I wanted in plain words. If your family is walking through something hard, you can have a place like this too.
