Days 55-63

September 17, 2025by Debra Scoresby Palmer

On Tuesday, Sept. 9, our Champion came home extra early from work due to migraine conditions. For Tony, it starts with changes in vision, like he is looking through a kaleidoscope. Light seems extra bright, and he can’t focus. The headache follows later.

On Wednesday, Mr. Charming presented me with flowers as a thank-you for taking such good care of him and because I’ve been suffering with a head cold. 🤧 Our basement bathroom flooded when we used the washing machine, so Tony snaked the basement drain twice and was able to get it cleared. (Not the first time in this old house, but what great timing. 🙄)

Overnight Wednesday into Thursday, the extreme joint and bone pain returned right on cue. By morning it had passed, and Tony went to work. When I asked about the Zyrtec, I learned he had taken only 10 mg instead of increasing the dose to 20 mg as Dr. Graham had recommended. 🤦🏼‍♀️

On Thursday night, Tony lamented the charley horses he keeps getting in his hands, even with the extra measures he is taking to stay hydrated. His brother, Cam, introduced him to Prime, and he really liked it… but after doing some research, he found a report that came out in July revealing that the artificial sweetener sucralose prevents the immunotherapy from working effectively. So now he has switched back to BodyArmor. He also found that one of his favorite protein shake brands, Premier Protein, is sweetened with sucralose. 😕 Tony found that stevia, however, can be beneficial, so we are looking for a different brand.

On Saturday, Tony pushed himself. I caught him carrying a heavy board more than fifty yards to create a scaffold so we could work on the eaves at the farmhouse. When I scolded him, he argued that he needs to build back his muscles. He’s not wrong, but… 😰

Things didn’t go quite as smoothly as expected with the repairs, and Tony ran out of time. Our ward had a “Family History Potluck,” and as a counselor in the Elders Quorum presidency, Tony had volunteered to take æbleskivers. He admitted later that he had overdone it.

On Sunday, William received his kids for the week, and we assembled the beds in the girls’ room. Our granddaughters seem very pleased with their new space. The last couple of days, I’ve found them lounging on their beds after school.

I wasn’t very good at being Tony’s patient advocate. I should have insisted that the appointment for the PET scan be set before we left the facility after the last treatment. When they finally called to schedule, the only slot they could offer was 8:30 am today. We woke up to a starry sky to get to SLC.

Going through something hard? Give your family one place to follow along.

Telling hard news again on every call and every text wears you out. That's why we made this blog: one place for Tony's story, updates by email, and a simple way for friends to help. I built it with HBA's Funnel Builder by typing what I wanted in plain words. If your family is walking through something hard, you can have a place like this too.
