Days 64-67

From Thursday through Sunday, we were supposed to be in Tempe, Arizona, at HBA Freedom Fest 5 with our online family. The disappointment of missing the event in person was heavy. 😢 We tuned in to the livestream when possible. (The photo shows Tony sharing his inspirational cancer survivor story at the event last year.) This year, he received “The Unshakable Spirit” award.

Instead of being in Arizona, we were home helping Will with the grandchildren as he waded through the divorce mediation process, and making preparations to go to SLC for Tony’s next treatment.

I took the grands on a Costco run early last week, and they saw the Bluey Halloween blowup and immediately fell in love. One of them shared a core memory of happier times when Mom and Dad would tuck them in bed and then stay up watching Bluey together. 😢

Divorce is the death of a marriage, and we are mourning.

When we stopped in at Costco in SLC after Tony’s PET scan, the Bluey blowup was priced $30 less than what I’d seen in I.F., so I brought it home and surprised the kids with it on Friday. They were tickled.

On Thursday, the head cold I thought I had conquered returned for an encore. An aggressive schedule of early mornings and late nights has taken its toll. Tony mowed the lawn on Saturday so I could rest, and we attended Tanner Scoresby’s funeral over Zoom. I managed to pick the ripest tomatoes from the garden and get them canned so they wouldn’t spoil.

I skipped church and stayed in bed today. Tony smoked two pork butts for 20 hours for Sunday dinner with the grands before their father took them to their mother for the week.

Tonight, Tony got on the scale to show me he has gained a few pounds back. He also tried on the pants with the 30” waist, and they were snug! 🤗

Thank you to all those who responded with suggestions for protein supplements! We continue to welcome your prayers as we keep moving forward through this very difficult time.

Going through something hard? Give your family one place to follow along.

Telling hard news again on every call and every text wears you out. That's why we made this blog: one place for Tony's story, updates by email, and a simple way for friends to help. I built it with HBA's Funnel Builder by typing what I wanted in plain words. If your family is walking through something hard, you can have a place like this too.

Starting through our link also helps support this site.
