On Friday, we resumed our regularly scheduled activities. Jacque and Emily had some time to share, so we introduced the littles to the joy of thrifting. They each chose a mug because it’s hot chocolate season, and we found some nice clothes too. If the giant stuffed animals our grandson bought with his own money are a clue, I would say they had a great time.
On Saturday, Tony and I ran errands and went to iPull to find a new taillight assembly for the van. The grandchildren helped make some fresh apple juice. We are grateful to Mike and Bernie Olsen for sharing their bounty! We will be making a lot of applesauce next week.
By Sunday, Tony was really feeling the fatigue. He took a soft seat in the foyer during the grandchildren’s Primary program.
He grilled up some delicious chicken for dinner as we celebrated Jacque’s birthday.
The intense fatigue lingered through Tuesday, and then came the excruciating bone pain. It seems like the after-effect of each treatment hits a little differently. As we climbed into bed on Wednesday night, Tony said, “Oh, no. Here it comes.” He could feel the pain flaring up in his joints. This time it wasn’t in the hips; it landed in his back. He didn’t get much sleep, and he went to work just the same.
On Thursday night, Tony took the last hydrocodone pill he had left over from a dental procedure, and it provided the relief he needed to get a good night’s rest.
Tony has noticed that he gets very sore in his sides, underneath the armpits, as if he has been working out his lateral muscles. He wonders if it’s the lymph nodes in that area responding to the treatment.
We just keep taking life day by day. The tomatoes we saved from the garden ripened, and I wanted to throw them away. Instead, I blanched, peeled, chopped, and puréed them. I may have saved the produce from spoiling, but it is the least exciting sauce I’ve ever made. You would never know there are jalapeños in it.
This journey has weighed heavily this past week. I prayed for comfort, and those who were in tune reached out and delivered.
Doris Richie made cookies and brought them over for the grands. We had a wonderful visit. It had been a long time since she sat in our mother’s kitchen. I walked her home, and she showed me the beautiful embroidery she is working on for a Christmas quilt.
Alesa Skillings ministered through text messages.
Faye Olsen delivered delicious chocolate chip cookies.
Lisa Schroeder brought over chicken noodle soup and a fresh loaf of bread on one of our most hectic days.
Lanae Jensen stopped by with a Swiss roll and visited with us.
I rarely see friends when I’m around town, and this week I visited with Kristy Waters Arutyunova and Rinda Waggoner.
I had to run an errand in Shelley today, so I stopped by Tony’s work for a quick hug and a photo. Tony just celebrated 10 years of employment at this jerky manufacturing facility.
